Neem Oil Insecticide

There are many uses for Neem oil insecticide which can be used around the home, in sheds and buildings, in the garden and is particularly useful for those people who are commercial growers of organic produce and cannot use chemical sprays etc. Neem oil is produced from the evergreen Neem tree which is native to the countries of South Asia and India but is now in many other countries situated around the globe.

Neem oil insecticide works on certain types of insects, especially those that eat holes in vegetables and flowers plus other things, and those that eat by sucking. The sucking insects can range from the ones that attack plants, others like lice or fleas and many more. It may also have an affect on termites which chew various timbers.

It is generally made into a spray, wash or soap but can be applied by other methods depending on what is being treated. It works by interfering with the hormone messages of the insects and upsetting their normal routine of eating, moulting, mating and laying eggs, it can disrupt the normal cycle.

When the substance is mixed into a spray the concentration of the oil is very low in the mixture. It has been found that it does not seem to harm beneficial insects such as things like bees. It does not work quickly as the chemical types do, but works by deterring the pests from eating, and in this way will take a few days or more to show results.

It is an organic substance and has not been found harmful at the low concentrations used. Anyone interested in making their own spray will find instructions on internet websites associated with this oil. Otherwise it may be available from an organic garden supply shop or by mail order from gardening centres and those who supply organic products.
